Update: The approval of Bridgewater’s investment management (IM) WFOE has major implications for global hedge funds. Their operability in China has been ambiguous at best, with no real clarification from regulators in regards to raising capital and investing onshore. We believe that Bridgewater’s entry has many wondering about what a global hedge fund can do in China and with Chinese capital. Z-Ben Advisors has observed that rivals are already following hot on the heels of Bridgewater. Despite current restrictions on WFOE applications for investment-related businesses, interest has never been stronger, and this should be turned into action ready for when the restrictions are lifted.
