Even with 2020 as a clear landing point, practical guidance on obtaining a wholly-owned mainland mutual fund license remains thin. Few definitive answers have been given to questions ranging from what you need, to how long it takes.
Such questions would be much simpler to gauge if all managers were starting from zero; wide-ranging starting points complicate matters. What firms already have in place will dictate which paths are available and, in turn, which set of regulatory requirements they are subject to.
