Building a global financial center
A plot has been hatched to turn Shanghai into a large(r) global financial hub. While the plan exists only in think tanks and policy position papers, there is a sense of urgency to redefine the city’s role in international corporate finance.
This should be good news for asset managers, buoyed by ongoing market opening. There is clear opportunity as more capital converges. Yet, little understanding seems to exist of the portended mechanics and execution-level relevance to individual firms.
This Strategic Outlook seeks to fill these gaps. Beyond motives and achievability, it also offers considerations of medium- and long-term resource decisions for asset managers.
